Question: Norm:Yours is the only show I make a point of watching - it inspires me and teaches me something every time I watch it!I was making the shelf-pin template for use with a router/guide and 1/4\" bit. I made it from 1/2\" baltic birch ply as you did on the show. I was using a 3/4\" forstner bit in my Delta 12\" drill press to drill the holes . After drilling the holes I flipped the template over and noticed quite a lot of tear-out around the holes. It doesn\'t really hurt the use of the template, but I was surprised the forstner bit did this. Do you have any ideas about why this happened? I\'d like to avoid doing this in the future.Thanks in advance!DirkStillwater, MN Answer: Sounds like you drilled through the template into air. Try backing up the workpiece with a backer board of scrap so when the bit goes through the first piece it is supported by the second. Good luck |
