Question:
Hi,I have some fir decking boards removed from an old deck that was a bout 2-3 yrs. old. The previous owners of the deck had painted it. My question is, is it ok to just run the boards thru my surface planer with the paint on it, or should I first strip off the old paint? What about sanding the painted surface first with a belt sander to remove some of it?Thanx,Chris...

Answer:
A surface planer will work fine but you will probably need to grind the knives aftr you've finished. The belt sander might remove some of the grit in the boards which would be an advantage.
