Question: I purchased the Fireplace Mantle plans recently and hopefully will have in completed in time for Christmas. Unfortunately I was not able to see the show at the time this project aired and although this particular plan does not contain assembly details that many of your furniture plans do, I am pretty confident I can assemble it successfully. I would like know your recommendations for securing the manlte to the wall. I was thinking securing with screws behind the moulding under the mantle shelf (to hide), but that of course would mean installing the moulding after securing to the wall - probably not the best idea. What do you recommend?Thanks, Brian QuinnHilliard, Ohio Answer: Since we painted our fireplace mantle, it was no problem countersinking then plugging screws into the framing surrounding the fireplace opening. |
